FACTS ABOUT THE ETERNAL LOVE GEMSTONE

Ametrine
Ametrine is a variety of quartz that contains both amethyst and citrine sectors in the same crystal. Both amethyst and citrine are colored by small amounts of iron (approx. 40 parts per million). Amethyst color develops when iron-containing quartz is exposed to ionizing radiation. In nature, gamma rays from the decay of potassium-40 are the most likely source of ionizing radiation. The model currently accepted is that radiation oxidizes Fe3+ to Fe4+. There is still uncertainty about the site of the iron. Both interstitial sites in the c-axis channels, and the silicon tetrahedral sites have been proposed as the site of the amethyst center. Citrine color is from Fe3+. The properties of the Fe3+ spectra suggest that the Fe3+ ions are aggregated and hydrated in clusters of unknown size.

Natural Occurrences

Bolivia

The only significant source of natural ametrine is the Anahí mine, in eastern Bolivia. The mine is operated by Minerales y Metales del Oriente, S.R.L., Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is the source of all the natural ametrine currently on the world's market. In the early days of production, there was much mis-information about the locality with Brazil and Uruguay frequently being mentioned as the source of ametrine.

Article 2004

Bolivia’s ametrine production might have ceased by now if not for recent dramatic changes by Ramiro Rivero, owner of Minerales y Metales del Oriente, which operates Anahí, the ametrine mining concession in southeastern Bolivia. Rivero is transforming the mine, the company and the gemstone Bolivians proudly call bolivianita.

Preserving the Pantanál
Rivero is also mindful of social and environmental responsibilities. Anahí is located on the Bolivian side of a nature preserve that borders Brazil called the Pantanál, which means “swampy area” in Spanish. It swarms with a multitude of caimans, snakes, insects and parrots. Jaguars have been seen loping through the jungle near Anahí, and coral snakes have been known to slither into the mine’s dining hall. But Rivero has strict rules against hunting and fishing.
The company also hired the Ayoreo tribal community from the nearby village of Rincón del Tigre (Tiger’s Corner) to patrol the jungles in search of illegal poachers. Rivero is developing plans for future ecotourism as a way to diversify his business.
The efforts of Minerales y Metales del Oriente have been recognized by U.S. entities such as the U.S. Agency for International Development, which rewards and recognizes forward-thinking companies in Bolivia.
The biggest change of all, however, is the way ametrine’s producers want you to think of the gem’s many-hued colors. Stay tuned.

Ametrine can be cut to show peach, orange and lavender – an optical mix of its purple and yellow color zoning. This gem was faceted by cutter Rick Stinson, Wichita, KS.
Classic ametrine, such as this one photographed on top of an ametrine crystal, exhibits 50/50 color zoning. The cutting style, while popular, is not the most efficient use of the rough.

Rough expert Enrique Sanjinez examines an ametrine for quality classification at the Anahí mine.
This suite of fantasy cuts shows ametrine can be cut in repeatable shapes. Each stone maintains an individual character because of its unique color zoning. Gems courtesy of Stuller, Lafayette, LA.

Bolivianita gem

Bolivia is home to the world's one and only known bolivianita mine. Bolivianita is a precious stone or gem that is partially yellow and partially purple. It's produced when citrine and ametrine combine. It is said that hundreds of years ago a beautiful Ayoreo princess named Anahí fell in love with a Spanish conqueror. This angered the members of her tribe so they plotted to kill the Spaniard. Anahí found out and warned him to leave for his safety. The members of her tribe, in an attempt to kill the Spaniard, accidentally killed Anahí instead. The two fused colors represent Anahí's broken heart, divided between her love for her people and her love for her Spaniard, to whom she gave the gem as she lay dying.

The silver mines of golden children

Watching children and young adolescents push loaded wheelbarrows out of the dark corridors of the tin, zinc and silver mines of the Bolivian town of Potosi, it is clear that the harsh reality of adulthood comes far too early.
This silver is used to make fine jewelry. The purpose of  this blog is to show the world that these children have no other option rather than working on these mines. If you buy a piece of jewelry from this website you will be donating 10% of you buy to the foundation dedicated to help this children fulfill their dreams and stop working.

Here is the first blog dedicated to a real life

When we buy things because they are pretty or only for the single fact that we have the need to buy something or some spare cash we never think twice where do these things come from? or if we would like to really know. Our lives are just lead by simplicity that we don't dare to know what is it beyond our understanding. It is easier to avoid facts, because they are painful or because our lives are so stressed from work or families that we don't stop to think about other people's lives. Here you will find a first attempt to bring joy to families and children that really need a hand because after all they are the base of our society and our future. Please follow me in this path and together we can make a difference, no matter how small this will be  it would be a big step for humanity.
